I
tried installing the Presstimator on Windows NT and the system
crashed. How can I get back into my computer?
Before
installing any System files, the Presstimator Install program
checks to see if a more recent version of the System file exists
on your computer. Because of a Microsoft error in the version
number on a couple of the Windows NT system files (ole32.dll and
possibly comcat.dll), the Install program replaced the newer,
original dll's with older ones. Windows NT will not work until
the original dll files are restored. Your Systems Administrator
can easily handle the problem and we apologize for any inconvenience.
To restore the original dll files:
- Reboot
your computer using the Windows NT boot disk and run the Windows
NT Setup. Follow the prompts and insert Disk 2 when prompted.
- In Welcome
to Setup, press R to Repair a Damaged NT 4.0 Install.
Select only Verify Windows NT System Files and press
Enter to continue.
- Continue
with the Setup, which will require Disk 3 and finally the Emergency
Repair Disk. You may perform a hard Disk Verification at this
point, if you wish (Escape to skip or Enter to verify).
- The Setup
program is now ready to Detect Original Install Files and will
list, one at a time alphabetically, any files that are not original.
Press Escape to Skip each file until you reach comcat.dll
(depending on your current Service Pack, comcat.dll may
not be listed) . At this point, press Enter to Repair
comcat.dll. You will be prompted to insert your original Windows
NT CD-ROM in your CD drive so Setup can restore the original
comcat.dll file. Continue in Setup until you reach ole32.dll
and Repair this file as above.
- Remove
the Setup floppy diskettes and the Windows NT CD-ROM and restart
your computer. It is recommended that you re-install your most
recent Service Pack (Service Pack 6 is required to install the
Presstimator) after restoring System files.
- Please
contact Star*Key Software for an
updated Presstimator demo disk which is suitable for Windows
NT.
